Choosing panels with confidence

Solar panel brands and warranties compared

Who makes your panels, how established is the business, and what does its warranty actually promise? Compare six manufacturers you may encounter in a UK solar quotation.

Sources checked: 8 October 2026

Six established manufacturers, with different histories and terms

These are examples from manufacturer documents, not blanket warranties for every panel carrying the same logo. Your installer should supply the applicable UK warranty for the exact model, supply date and installation. Product cover concerns defects; performance cover sets a minimum panel output curve under specified test conditions.

Company ages are approximate calendar-year differences as at 2026. Figures describe group scale, not money reserved for warranty claims.

Manufacturer-reported figures use different dates and measures. They show the scale of the businesses, not a financial-strength ranking or a prediction of which will exist in 30 years.

Experience behind the logo

Company age is not the same as years making today’s panels

Trinasolar

Founded in 1997, with a long solar-industry history and manufacturing operations across several countries. Vertex S+ is a modern product family: the company’s age does not mean this particular design has 29 years of field use. Read its history and footprint.

JinkoSolar

Started as a wafer manufacturer in 2006 before developing its cell and module business. Tiger Neo is a much newer generation. Its manufacturing scale provides useful context alongside model-specific testing and the claim route. Read the company’s history.

LONGi

Founded in 2000, initially associated with silicon and wafers. Its 2020 annual report says the acquisition of Zhejiang LERRI Solar at the end of 2014 expanded its module business. That is about 12 years since that acquisition, rather than 26 years manufacturing the current Hi-MO design. Annual report history.

JA Solar

Operating in solar since 2005, with an established cell and module business. Its corporate brochure identifies the listed JA Solar Technology group. Check the actual 12Y, 15Y or 25Y product version in the quotation: a family name alone is insufficient. Corporate brochure.

Canadian Solar

Founded in Canada in 2001, the group combines module manufacturing with wider renewable-energy and storage activities. CSI Solar’s module warranty is the relevant document to check; a parent company’s size does not automatically make every group company responsible for your claim. Group profile.

AIKO

A solar-cell manufacturing business founded in 2009. Its timeline records the ABC cell launch in 2021 and ABC module launch in 2022. It has a substantial cell history, while its own ABC panels have a shorter track record. Group identity · Manufacturing timeline.

Where an exact first-module-production date has not been established from the sources reviewed, we do not substitute the founding year or invent a manufacturing duration.

Read the model number

Two panels from one brand can have different cover

AIKO’s global NEOSTAR 3S60 page advertises 25-year product cover. Its NEOSTAR 3P+54 dual-glass page describes 15 years, extendable to 25. An extension needs its own eligibility and completion checks.

LONGi’s April 2026 Hi-MO X10 distributed-generation warranty lists 15-year product cover for the named models, despite longer offers appearing elsewhere in marketing. Ask for the supplier’s written enhanced warranty if your quotation promises more.

JA Solar’s linked 25Y datasheet shows 25-year product and 30-year power cover. Its European product page contains an inconsistent summary field, reinforcing the need to obtain the actual warranty document instead of relying on one website headline.

These are reasons to verify the paperwork, rather than reasons to dismiss a manufacturer.

Tom Solar’s independent assessment

Which brands are sensible to consider?

All six belong on a credible shortlist.

Our assessment is that their published manufacturing histories, scale and documented panel products justify considering them for a UK home. This is a shortlist, not a league table or a guarantee of future solvency.

For a homeowner prioritising an established module supply base, Trina, Jinko, JA Solar and Canadian Solar are sensible starting points for comparing quotations. LONGi is also a substantial manufacturer, but make sure its actual product-cover period meets your expectations. AIKO merits consideration where its back-contact panels fit the design, while recognising that its ABC module history is younger than its cell business.

The best choice comes from the exact panel, roof design, delivered price, claim process and installer aftercare together. A newer brand is not automatically unreliable, and a famous name does not compensate for weak installation or unclear labour cover.

These recommendations are editorial judgments based on the sources linked here. This comparison is not a sponsorship or a statement that Tom Solar is an authorised representative of these manufacturers.

Practical reassurance

Ask who will actually help if a panel develops a fault

  • Who is the legal warranty provider, and can the UK homeowner claim directly?
  • Is the equipment supplied through an authorised route, with traceable serial numbers?
  • When does cover start, and does registration or an extension need completing?
  • Who pays for fault-finding, roof access, testing, removal and reinstallation?
  • What happens if the installer closes, and are warranty rights transferable when you sell?

A UK sales office is useful, but is not by itself proof that a UK company owes the warranty obligation. Group revenue, shipment totals and “Tier 1” labels are context; they do not insure your purchase or promise that every claim will be paid.

How to use this comparison

Sources are linked beside the relevant figures and examples. Checked on 8 October 2026; terms can change. Use the warranty supplied for your particular purchase to establish the cover, not this summary alone. We have not independently audited the manufacturers’ financial health or their UK claim-handling performance.
